The
Mauritius Research and Innovation Council has marked the official opening of
SustainX 2026, a national innovation challenge focused on advancing sustainable
digital systems.
The
initiative, led by Telcom Solutions Ltd in collaboration with the University of
Mauritius, was launched during a ceremony held on March 24, 2026, at the
University of Mauritius.

The
event was attended by key stakeholders, including Kaviraj Sharma Sukon,
Minister of Tertiary Education, Science and Research; Theesan Bahorun,
Executive Director of MRIC; Mohammad Issack Santally, Pro Vice-Chancellor
(Academia); and Gulshan Mohun, Director of Telcom Solutions Ltd.
SustainX
2026 is designed to encourage innovation in digital technologies that support
sustainability goals, bringing together academia, industry, and policymakers to
develop solutions that address environmental and socio-economic challenges.
Organizers
say the challenge aims to strengthen Mauritius’ innovation ecosystem while
promoting the development of digital systems that contribute to sustainable
development and long-term resilience.
