KICTANet has advanced
efforts to promote inclusive digital access in Turkana County with the launch
of a sign language interpretation mobile application designed to support the
deaf community.
The initiative, implemented
by partner Signs Media Kenya Ltd, introduced the assistALL mobile app, which
enables on-demand sign language interpretation, particularly in healthcare
settings. The rollout was accompanied by community engagement and digital literacy
training aimed at improving access to essential services.
Leaders within the deaf
community highlighted the importance of digital skills in enabling access to
government services, participation in e-commerce, and broader economic
opportunities.
The initiative forms part of
the Enhancing Digital Access and Community Resilience (EDACR) project led by
KICTANet and funded by the British High Commission in Nairobi through the UK
Digital Access Programme. Officials say the project is helping to advance
accessible and inclusive digital solutions while strengthening community
resilience.
