Eswatini has received the
Best Smart City Project Award in Taipei, Taiwan, recognizing a pilot initiative
implemented in Mbabane Municipality aimed at advancing digital innovation and
urban development.
The award was received by
Savannah Maziya, Executive Chair and a senior official within the Ministry of
ICT, alongside the CEO and Mayor of Mbabane Municipality. The recognition
highlights the country’s efforts to deliver cost-effective and impactful smart
city solutions within a short timeframe.
Officials noted that the
project reflects Eswatini’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve
urban services, enhance connectivity, and create opportunities for citizens,
particularly young people. The initiative was supported by the Government of Taiwan
and implemented in collaboration with local authorities.
Following the success of the
Mbabane project, plans are underway to expand similar initiatives to Matsapha
and Manzini as part of broader efforts to position Eswatini as a competitive
player in the global digital economy.
